Cotutelle
Cotutelle encourages the mobility of doctoral students and scientific cooperation.
Principles of the international cotutelle thesis
- Thesis work is carried out in two (or three) laboratories, one attached to a Sorbonne University ED, the second (or third) in a laboratory at the partner university.
- The doctoral student carries out his or her research under the responsibility of a thesis supervisor in each of the establishments concerned, who carry out their supervisory functions in collaboration with each other.
- Preparation for the doctorate is carried out in alternating periods at the different institutions concerned, according to a balanced timetable and procedures defined in the cotutelle agreement.
- The doctoral student registers each year for a doctorate at 2 (or 3) higher education establishments: one in France, the second (or third) abroad.
- The thesis is defended in one of the signatory institutions, in accordance with the rules set out in the cotutelle agreement.
- The doctor receives two (or three) doctoral degrees from the signatory institutions, or a joint degree. The international cotutelle status is indicated on the diploma.
Setting up an international cotutelle
- Once your application has been accepted, you can download the cotutelle application form from ADUM.
- Once the various parties have validated your application, you must submit the signed form in the ADUM deposit area, together with all the documents required for administrative registration as a doctoral student.
- Once the file has been validated, the drafting of the proposed cotutelle agreement begins.
- You will then register for your doctorate at Sorbonne University in the usual way
International co-supervision
International co-supervision is governed by the same rules as cotutelle, except that the diploma is awarded by only one of the two institutions.
